Nov 13, 2017By Molah Media
Welcome to WIH-UK Group’s November newsletter.
Firstly, thanks to all of you that have joined WIH-UK and followed our social media handles and blog site. It’s great to have you all on board.
Recap: October
It was also a pleasure to see some of you at the ‘Empowering Women in Healthcare’ Coffee Morning held last month on the 27th of October at Weetwood Hotel in Leeds. Panel speakers included Angie Khupe, Nomsa Nekevane, Tina Norbury, Susan Audu, Tracey Cain, Jackie Warner, Cecilia Camacho, Thembe Kile Moyo and Celestine Ncuee.
The morning gave attendees the chance to engage in active networking with like-minded individuals and discussions with our director and founder, Angie Khupe. One hot topic was the need for diversity in the care system. A point was raised to highlight how diversity had to extend beyond just the workforce but to a whole range of arenas including even culinary cultural diversity. Attendees also exchanged their experiences of abuse in and of the care system – a session that was both insightful and thought provoking. Overall there was great feedback from attendees!
The following day, on Saturday 28th October, Angie featured on a panel discussing ‘Healthcare for Modern Times’ at ‘#ThePowerBridge,’ a networking day hosted by the Zimbabwean International Women’s Awards (ZIWA). The panel also featured a Specialist Maternity & Paediatric Liaison Nurse, a Child Protective Specialist who was awarded an MBE for her services to children (2016) and an award-winning Public Health Specialist. Topics of discussion included fostering a system of support for those with mental health challenges as well as the impact of family dynamics and dysfunctions on health.
