Introducing: Women In Healthcare UK

Women in Healthcare (WiH) is a platform for female healthcare professionals that aims to provide networking opportunities, professional and social support and space to share and grow ideas, all while raising a progressive profile of the industry.

From nurses to doctors to pharmacists to physiotherapists to dieticians to speech therapists and more, in most countries around the world, women make up around 80% of the healthcare workforce (though less than 40% are key decision makers in the field). Even whilst at the frontline of health and social care, women are often always running the show at home: caring for children and elderly parents whilst making key life decisions for all involved. What this means is that we, i), face different day-to-day challenges from our male peers, and thus, ii), have unique and varied needs. It is a challenge to find a resource that can equip us to manage the various challenges that come with our roles. WiH-UK was born out of recognising this need.

WiH-UK is a community network created by women for female healthcare professionals from all walks of life. Our key objective is to equip ourselves with the services and resources we need to thrive in our individual roles. We appreciate that each woman and each healthcare role has individual needs and that it’s not always feasible to find a resource that will cater for all of our various demands!

For this reason, WiH-UK is placed as a one-stop hub providing a wide range of offerings for all of our members… in one place. Services available include discounts on services, access to educational resources and personal development programmes, updates on changes in regulation, financial advice and services, consultancy, business opportunities and support in career progression.

Through various face-to-face and meet-and-greet events, we also hope to provide a safe space for open and frank discussions and debates about issues that affect us in our roles, and most importantly, together find ways of managing those issues effectively.

History
WiH-UK was founded by Angie Khupe, a Business and Management Consultant who has worked for both the National Health Service and Department of Health. She is a healthcare business specialist and provides consultancy and support to start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises.

She combined her professional skills and insights with her passion for networking to create WIH-UK in 2016. Today, she now works with a team of 3:

Donna Jackson – Business Consultant who works closely with Angie to help members develop their business ideas

We will be holding an ‘Empowering Women in Healthcare’ Coffee Morning at Weetwood Hotel, Otley, LS16 5PS, for a morning of empowerment. discussions and networking.

Saturday 28th October, 2017
Angie Khupe will be part of a panel discussion on ‘Women In Health and Social Care’ at the Zimbabwe International Women’s Awards (ZIWA) networking day – ‘The Power Bridge – Building a Lifetime of Opportunity for Women and Girls.’

The event will be held at Winstanley House, Leicester, LE3 1HX from 10am – 6pm.
